By William Espy
Throughout his relatively short career, Falk has become a
bit of a journeyman. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL entry
draft by the Minnesota Wild and would remain in the Wild organization until
June 30, 2013 when he would be traded to the New York Rangers. After one
unproductive season with the Rangers, Falk would return to the Wild as a free
agent. He then failed to earn a regular spot on the Minnesota blue line and
would request a trade to move his career forward. Then on March 2, 2015 Falk
would be dealt as part of a very famous trade. Falk and a 5th round
pick would be sent to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Jordan Leopold.
Following the trade, Jarmo Kekalainen would tweet this:
Falk would get both his first goal and assist since the
trade on March 6, 2015 against the New Jersey Devils which would be his only
two points as a Jacket so far.
On May 30, 2015 Falk would receive a 1 year, two way
extension with the Blue Jackets giving him a chance to earn his spot in the
regular line up. His status however? He'll likely be available if Jarmo feels he has to open up a roster spot and gets the right offer.
