Mississauga, Ontario native Cody Goloubef’s road to the NHL
has been a difficult one. A majority of his young career was spent bouncing
between the AHL and NHL, often when he got called up he barely played. The
2014-2015 season was going to be huge for him. Out of training camp, Goloubef
had finally earned a spot on the Blue Jackets roster for what appeared to be
the long run. On November 1, 2014 however, disaster struck for Goloubef. A knee
injury in a game against the New Jersey devils would sideline him until January
4. He appeared to be back at square one.
Goloubef’s statistics may not appear impressive, with only
10 points in 53 career NHL games, but he is another underrated point on the
Columbus blue line. Goloubef can hit very hard, he can play defense almost as
well as anyone on the team, and he doesn’t make many offensive mistakes.
If Goloubef can stay healthy, he will have a good shot at a
breakout season on the blue line. It may not show up on the score sheet, however
he has much more talent than many believe.
