Goodbye Babcock, Hello Blashill.

By Alex Kubiak

The Babcock Era is over. While we had a great run while he was running the team it is time for a change. It is officially the Jeff Blashill Era in Detroit. It shouldn't come to a surprise to any Red Wings fans that Detroit is going to name Blashill (officially) as the head coach sometime this week. If you ask any Detroit fan if he/she is scared for Detroit's future... most will say hell no. We are excited. We are tired of barely making it into the playoffs. We are tired of first round exits once we get there. We need a change.
Blashill has been the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) head coach for the last three years where he posted a 134-71-23 record, and won the Calder Cup in 2013. In the summer of 2014 Blashill was highly sought after by other teams, however, Detroit denied permission to any team who wanted to speak with him. They then went on to sign him to a 3 year contract extension and pay him $400,000 a year. Detroit was simply paving the road ahead for Blashill to become the head coach of Detroit after Babcock left, and Detroit fans are ready.
I can't predict the future but I'm not scared that our playoff streak will end. We have the talent. We have the skill. We have the tools. We have the leadership to be a winning team again.
